Teen Struck By Car

Condition Critical, But Stable

Ann Keane was struck down by a 1991 Nissan Saturday afternoon, May 20 at approximately 4 p.m. as she was crossing Beach Channel drive at Beach 92 street, across from McDonald’s. She, along with members of her family, were going home after celebrating her sixteenth birthday. According to police, Samuel Kramer of Far Rockaway, the driver of the Nissan, was traveling 40 mph, in a 30 mph zone, when he struck the young girl. He was issued a summons for speeding by officers of the New York City Highway Division, who are investigating the accident.

Kramer told police that he was traveling eastbound on Beach Channel drive, approaching the corner where O’Connor’s Funeral Home is located, when he saw the teenager crossing the street. According to the traffic report, Kramer explained that he hit the brakes and turned his car to the right, but was unable to avoid hitting her.

Miss Keane sustained critical injuries to her head and was removed from the accident scene by EMS ambulance to Jamaica Hospital Center where surgery was performed. As The Wave went to press Thursday, hospital representatives confirmed that she remained in critical condition, but that her vital signs were stable.
