From the Shores of

Beach Channel High School

By Mr. Davis

On Sunday, April 30, I flew from LA to New York. I sat in first class next to former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros. We spoke for quite some time about numerous topics. At one point I asked him if he would talk to my class at Beach Channel. He said that he would try to do so.

On Monday, May 1, Mr. Galin (social studies assistant principal) received a call from an aide to Mr. Cisneros who said he would appear at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2.

He spoke about his career -- city council member in San Antonio, mayor of San Antonio, and Housing Secretary. He also lectured in government in general as well as his present job as president of Univision, a Spanish language TV network. He answered questions from the students and asked them where they intended to go to college (as this was a senior class).

He was well received by the class.
