Movies By Moonlight

Since the closing of Surfside Cinema between Beach 102 and Beach 104 streets on Rockaway Beach boulevard, Rockaway has been devoid of a movie theater. Locals have been forced to flee the peninsula in search of fine cinematic entertainment, often times to no avail. That problem is soon to be remedied as a result of the combined effort of the Rockaway Artists Alliance and Gateway National Recreation Area.

On Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 the RAA will present "Movies By Moonlight" at Ft. Tilden. The free program aims to provide Rockaway residents and movie lovers from the surrounding areas with two evenings of classic cinema under the stars. The Marx Brothers’ hit comedy "Horsefeathers" is slated for June 9 at 8:30 p.m., and the Academy Award winning musical "West Side Story" will be shown on June 10 at 8:30 p.m.

"Movies By Moonlight" is a chance for family and friends to gather under the stars and enjoy an entertaining and affordable night out. A blanket or beach chair and a love of good movies are all anyone needs to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
