The Oriole Report

Softball Playoffs Start Sunday

By Theo Baxter

After two weeks of delays, the Orioles inevitable march to the playoffs kick-off this Sunday, May 14. The Birds’ season was postponed for numerous reasons, possibly by that massive right-wing conspiracy that went after Hillary and her husband a few years back. First, the entire slate of games scheduled for April 30 was scrapped due to a late withdrawal from the league by the Healy’s Oldtimers and a lack of field availability. Then last Sunday, with the JBSL having an odd number of teams remaining, the oddest of them were scheduled for a bye.

This Sunday’s games will be against the Grassy Point Assassins, at 10 a.m., up in Riis Park. Both teams and their fans will then travel all the way back to Grassy’s for the postgame drink-up. Bring your EZ Pass and your orange beer mug and have a few cold ones with your favorite Orioles before your Mother’s Day dinner.

News and Notes…

Rumor Mill: Will a former Oriole make a surprise comeback this weekend? Word has it that he’s had a change of heart, and will return to the Orange…..

A note to all the JBSL Internet geeks-the Theo Baxter who writes this column is no relation to the one posting all over your little webpages….

It seems there’s no truth to the rumors that the Orioles will claim Rickey Henderson off waivers from the Mets. Although Rickey would seem to fit in well, like most Orioles, he constantly bitches about the lineup, he comes to play once a week, and he gives about 60 percent effort -- his $2 million salary is too much for the Birds to handle now that the league is charging $120 for kegs…

O’Neill’s reaction to being called "Chope’s right hand man" in the last Oriole Report: "Thank God he does most things lefty." Yuck…

Only five weeks until Sully’s 13th Annual Midget-Tossing Birthday Party. Check here for more details…
