2 Teens Arrested

Two Hammels teenagers, one 14 and one 16, have been arrested and charged with the April 26 robbery and shooting of a 19 year old man from Beach 71 street.
According to detectives from the 100 Precinct, the victim, whose name is being withheld by the authorities, was in the lobby of 81-05 Rockaway Beach boulevard in the Hammels Houses when he was approached by the two young teens who attempted to rob him at gunpoint. While fleeing the building, the victim caught two bullets in the back.
The 14 year old, the alleged shooter, was arrested on May 1. Two days later the 16 year old was arrested. Both have been arraigned on charges of attempted murder, robbery 1 and 2, assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon. Their names are being withheld by police at this time. However, both teens will be facing their felony charges as adults and the Queens District Attorney’s office requested a high bail be set. As The Wave went to press Thursday, they remained incarcerated.
The victim, according to police, was "very lucky." Although he was struck twice in the back, he was not paralyzed. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s trauma unit right after the shooting and the surgery was successful.
