Hart Responds

Dear Editor;

I do know the importance of an alcoholic treatment center for the Peninsula. I have had several dear friends and family battle this disease.

A few years ago, the Rockaway Beach Civic Association stood alone against all other civic groups here in favor of a residence at the old Rockaway Beach Hospital for people with such needs. My statement to the Daily News was taken out of context. It sounded harsh and was not meant to be. I attended a meeting of community leaders last month informing us of the possibility of the St. John's Center relocating to Beach 102 street. The owners of the property attended. Every civic leader there stood up in turn and told them why they were opposed to it. You should not attack me personally for something all community leaders expressed opposition too. Lew Simon has the list of all who attended that large gathering.

Perhaps you should get active in local civic meetings and understand why there was such an outcry. They are listed in The Wave. Let your needs be heard. Not one person spoke
for you.
