Notes From The High C’s

Rockaway Music and Arts Council

By Sharon Gabriel

Our 45th anniversary plans promise real pizzazz! A sizzling Sunset Picnic Concert Series and a fabulous fall festival. "Something for every music and art taste," says John Musumeci, producer.

Our Summer Series begins June 25 with the great Klezmer music of the renowned Andy Statman…his group just performed last weekend at Manhattan’s Symphony Space! Then, back by popular demand, on July 9, The New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players will present The Pirates of Penzance after their wildly successful performance of HMS Pinafore last year.

A huge crowd pleaser, our Legends of Rock ‘N Roll Concert features our own Kenny Vance and the Planotones along with the 50’s favorite The Del Satins on July 23. Get ready, on August 6, for Dean Karahalis, the exuberant conductor of the Long Island Pops. It’s always a most joyous evening.

And…the grand finale…a journey to Ireland on August 20 with six musicians and six step dancers on stage. All this fantastic entertainment as a fitting tribute to our special celebration year….free…at Fort Tilden, where you can bring your family and friends, your picnic supper and enjoy a lovely summer evening in Rockaway.

Hear more about our plans…add to our ideas….volunteer to help…come down to our RMAC open meeting on Wednesday, May 3, 8 p.m., at The Beach Club.
