Though it rained on the Easter Parade this year, I do hope you were able to rise above the cloudy skies and have a nice day. Easter Sunday, I had a most delicious prime rib dinner at Snug Harbor with Tom Connors, who is doing a great job fighting the early stages of Parkinson’s disease. And, Frankie Gallagher is still doing a fine job keeping his restaurant one of the choicest dining spots for its consistent, very ample, top grade, well prepared food.

Easter Sunday, I was invited to the home of my soon to be 99 year old Aunt Tessie from Utica Walk. Emeril as Joe Fata, her son in law, is referred to baked lasagna as only a true Italian can for his mother in law, Gladys Crowley, wife Caryn, caretaker, Merle and myself. He does so well he should go into the catering business; especially since he catered this meal. It was a pleasant day with the family.

You "auto" go to the auto show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. It will be there till Sunday, April 30 and bring the whole family. You’ll see the 19 foot long and 8 foot wide crime fighting Batmobile used in feature films, Michael Jackson’s Chevy Suburban. And in celebration of its 100 year anniversary, there is New York’s automotive century exhibition, a decade by decade display of a dozen stunning showstopper cars that have intrigued and amazed many visitors over the past 100 years. The original owner was from Old Brooknell Road on Long Island who received a Tomy Award for the best polo player from Kings Point. Some of this year’s cars that received awards: Best Coupe: BMW; Best Small Car: Volkswagen; Best Sedan: BMW 520; Best Luxury Sedan: Mercedes Benz; Best Luxury Sports Car and Auto of the Year went to Porsche Boxer. Go and have a great time.

"Lil" Elian Gonzolas, the Cuban immigrant, who has finally been returned to his dad through the most terrifying means, has brought many of us to controversy over his extraction from the Miami Cuban family who have lovingly cared for him for five months. Personally, I don’t think the government should have been involved. It was a domestic issue and should have been left to the domestic courts. And though I feel he belongs with his father, I don’t think Elian’s dad should have waited so long as he did to try to retrieve his son. Hopefully this child will be able to overcome the traumatic experience he has had to face at the age of six. Only time will tell.

It is going to be a lot easier for all of us to get to Cuba soon.
