Saint Francis de Sales Team 2 went down in defeat for the first time this
season as they dropped a grueling match against Saint Sebastian of Woodside by a score of 3-1.
The fist period was evenly matched as both teams worked the ball back and forth up the field. James Mc Cool and Eddie Warren were able to move the ball into the corners, but forwards Michael Carnacchio and Michael Mangano were unable to convert any of their passes into goals. Patrick Memi, who started in the nets, kept SFDS in the game not allowing a
score in the first.
The second stanza found SFDS not as lucky. The squad from Saint Sebastian turned up the heat and notched the first tally of the game as the defense of SFDS could not clear the ball from the zone. With Eddie Watt and Johnny Duggan up front now, SFDS tried to avenge the only score they had given up this year.
Brian King, Kevin Gilmartin and Andrew Harrs chased the ball down at midfield and Patrick Memi powered his way through the defense to put the ball by the keeper and knot the game at one.
Vincent Esposito, Conor Mahoney and Ryan Laurain tried in vain to keep St. Sebastian at bay, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Never really able to take charge in the way they have in past weeks, SFDS found themselves playing catch up the rest of the way and in the end St.
Sebastian would prove to be to be too much for them this day. They would go on to score twice more before the final whistle ending the match a 3-1
victory for the visitors.
No games next week and a happy holiday to all our friends and supporters!
