Sergei Koushdirenko, of Brooklyn, wrapped his Lexus sports car around a tree on Beach 144 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard at 3:27 a.m. Wednesday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police received a radio call from a witness equipped with a cell phone that advised them that a man was pinned inside a car that was severely damaged from the impact of the crash.

According to police, a witness to the crash told them that the vehicle was travelling west on Rockaway Beach Boulevard at excessive speed when it went up onto the sidewalk at Beach 144 street striking a tree head on.

The question of whether or not the accident was the result of alcohol, or drugs remained unanswered as The Wave went to press Thursday. Police are still actively investigating the incident and are awaiting a report from the medical examiner’s office.

Koushdirenko, 25, resided at 8700 25 Avenue, Brooklyn.
