Undefeated--After All These Years!
By Marisa Rudolph
Saint Francis de Sales' swim team is having another exciting year, having won five out of five meets. On Friday, March 24, SFDS won over TriM by three points, 60 to 57.
Maureen McCluskey started the meet off with a bang coming in first for the 25 freestyle and MaryBeth Lograno was trailing right behind her looking great for third place. Jordana Cotilletta had a terrific performance in the 25 back, coming in second. Kerry King had an unbelievable streamline. In the 25-yard breaststroke, Kelly Werner and Brianne Carroll looked great and kept the team's spirit alive by their second and third place wins.
The bantam freestyle relay consisted of Patricia Scherpf, Meaghan Judge, Devin Nuszer, and Lauren Atwood. Their hard work resulted in a first place finish. The relay team of Meghan Dolan, Casey McCormack, Catherine Warren and Daisy Diehm also showed what St. Francis can do. The other relay teams of Carolyn Fitzgerald, Grace Munns, Norah Marley and Michelle Rudolph, Lauren Spadaro, Michelle Kenel, Caitlyn O'Rourke and Katelyn McFadden proved that practice does pay off.
In the novice division, Sarah Harrs, Shavon Kelly, Catherine Dinerman and Emily Kelly had the closest race of the night. They looked awesome and claimed a well-earned second place in sub-record time. Molly McNulty, Chelsea Kellar, Kate Magee and Morgan White all gave great efforts for third. Great swimming by Alison Blutstein, Susan Richter, Rita Regan, Aimee Diehm, Sarah Donahue, Sara Duffy and Jessie Iori showed that the team is in great hands for years to come
The meet picked up in intensity when juniors, Gena Cholakis and Samantha Swenson, dove in for the 50-freestyle. They gave SFDS a first and second place win; Gena first, Samantha second. Gena did a personal best of 26.7 seconds. Katie O'Neill had a personal best also for her first place in 50 backstroke and Nora Howard looked great after a week of practicing.
The junior freestyle relay consisting of Marisa Spadaro, MaryAnne Diehm, Cara O'Donnell and Karolina Pormanczuk had another super close race and snuck into second place. Also Kim Francis, Amanda Boggiano, Sheila O'Rourke and Kathleen Firtle swam a fabulous race. Jenna Boggiano, Christina Comis, Adele Warren, and Katie Pareja also looked super. Maureen Carey, Courtney Donahue, Kathy Muldoon and Lauren Atwood kept everyone in the winning spirit. The crowd was cheering louder than ever. Also in this event was Nora Howard, Marisa Spadaro, Maureen Mc-Cluskey, and Jenna Boggiano, ready to swim anything the coach told them to swim. Next to them in the pool was Gena Cholakis, Allana Quinn, and Amanda Boggiano flying through the water.

Marisa came in first. Brittany took third. Bridget Mahoney, Katelyn Mc-Cluskey, Mary Edwards and Patricia Keenan swam the senior 200 free relay. They looked great and the team hopes that when they get to high school they don't forget to come back and swim. Next to them in the pool was Karolina Pormanczuk, Ellen Lynch, Jackie Geary and Alyson Lee and they looked proud to be part of the SFDS team. The second heat of Christen Mullen, Michelle Elefant, Marisa Rudolph and Cara O'Donnell bust a gut and came in first. Pamela Kellar, Trish Killian, Kim Francis and Sheila O'Rourke came in a close third.
The meet was still neck and neck with the win up for grabs. Elisa Kearney, Jackie Kenel, Samantha Cotilletta and Lauren Diffendale had such a close race in the senior medley that it was hard to tell who won. They were happy to score a second place for the team. Patricia Ollquist, Mary Edwards, Bridget Mahoney and Nicole Dima swam like they wanted that win for SFDS. Finishing up the meet in the senior medley were Keara Savage, Barbara Drozdzik, Patricia Keenan and Katelyn McKeon plus Elisa Kearney, Lauren Diffendale and Samantha Cotilletta finishing off the night of hard work and great spirit.
Then the official announced the score and the crowd went wild. SFDS remains undefeated and plans to keep on winning.
