Free Tennis Clinic For Kids Opens

The New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) recently announced that it will be offering free after-school tennis instruction to Rockaway youngsters this spring. The program will begin May 1, 2000 and runs through late-June.

Children ages 8-18 are invited to participate in the free tennis clinics and matches arranged under the New York Junior Tennis League's direction and supervision. Local children's groups are encouraged to attend. The league provides the children with beginner rackets, balls and other tennis equipment.

Youngsters who participate in the program learn the game of tennis from trained tennis staff, ready and able to work with children at all levels of ability. Children must register at the site during hours of operation. There is no deadline for registering.

The following locations in Rockaway offering these free clinics are: JHS 198, 365 Beach 56 street; Beach Channel High School, 100-00 Beach Channel Drive; P.S. 183, 254 Beach 79 street; and I.S. 53, 10-45 Nameoke street.

The NYJTL is a non-profit organization founded in 1970 by Arthur Ashe. For more information, contact 718-786-7100, ext. 26.
