Ferry Misses The Boat
I must beg to differ with Congressman Weiner regarding the proposed ferry at the old Coast Guard station.
As a twenty-year resident of Belle Harbor, I do not see how this will service our community. We had a ferry service to the city a few years back. Did I use it? Yes, in pleasant weather. Would I use it during the winter months? No!
Once you are driving or taking the bus, it is just as easy to go to Sheepshead Bay. There is also shopping over there—something our community needs but doesn’t have.
Why, with such a large year-round population, is Rockaway reduced to summer-serving "reforms"? You are addressing three months. What happened to the other nine?
There is parking at Riis Park. There are buses from Brooklyn and Queens. There is train service to the Rockaways. Why not invest that area in Rockaway’s best interest? A library, a museum, a theater for performing arts—we could all enjoy a better quality of life as community residents.
Rockaway doesn’t need a one-hit wonder or more summertime hype. Where is our voice? Where are our needs?
