First Incentive Assembly Held…

On Monday, March 27 an assembly was held for students belonging to the "Red Team" (FRHS students are now divided into "teams" instead of "houses"). Monday’s assembly was held to recognize various accomplishments during last term, fall 1999. Many Red Team students received certificates for such accomplishments as perfect attendance, passing all courses, joining the honor roll (for students with grade averages from 85 to 89) or joining the Principal’s Honor Roll (for students with averages of 90 or above.) At the assembly Red Team Coordinator, Ms. Fern Jacoby, also introduced the other team administrators (Ms. Dattner (grade advisor), Dr. R. Sloan (Red Team assistant principal), Dean Cooper, and Ms. Diop (community based organization representative, New Horizons). "The Red Team" said Ms. Jacoby "is setting the standards at FRHS for pride, courage, honesty and effort."

V-E Students Back From Trade Show In Vienna…

On March 17, Shakira Senior, vice-president of ETC!, Inc., FRHS’s virtual enterprise company, joined 13 other NYC high school students—all from new V-E companies-- attending this year’s Austrian Virtual Enterprise Trade Show held at the city hall in Vienna, Austria. Each of the students from New York was hosted by the family of a virtual enterprise student from Vienna. Shakira’s time was divided between sightseeing and manning New York’s booth at the show, representing 41 American virtual enterprise companies in all. "I loved Vienna," Shakira said enthusiastically, "and I couldn’t believe how close everything was in Europe. Paris was only three hours away by train; Budapest, Hungary, only an hour east of us and the border of Italy was only an hour and a half south. I’d like to go back." Asked what she liked best about Vienna, Shakira replied, "Definitely, the food."

Free Courses For Adults…

Once again we announce that parents and community residents will have the opportunity to take classes on Thursday evenings. FRHS is offering a course entitled "Introduction to Technology," taught by Mr. R. Ramnarine and another, entitled "Aerobics and Fitness," taught by Mrs. E. Turner (for this class, please wear exercise clothing). Classes begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 8:30.
