Waldheim Report On Softball
By Corinne Waldheim
The new century is upon us and so is a new season of softball. The first
meeting will be on Tuesday, March 28 at 8 p.m. at Grassy Point.
The Muggers will return and have announced a few acquisitions (well not exactly announced but I do have a source this time) including former Mudshark Kevin Gill. It should be interesting to see who will play shortstop. I am sure his brother Billy will have something to say about that. Kenny "The Rat" will be back and does not see retirement in the near future.
In Mudshark news, Bob Steiner was rumored to be changing hats, taking on a new role as umpire but I have been informed that this is untrue. Joey Ernst has been seen training Rocky style (speaking of Rocky, hey Danny how's boxing?) with teammate Ken Jackowski in the wee hours of the morning; my guess is the new season can't get here quick enough for these guys.
The abominable Meatball is looking forward to butting heads with Diver when he goes to bat for the Daggers (I believe he said the Daggers, it was at the St. Pat's Day parade). I am not exactly sure if the Out-of-Town Assassins will be returning to play and just got a definitive "I don't think so."
The Blackwater Freakshow will be back with Doc and the rest of the gang. I noticed my prediction did not come true as Doc's hair is still longer than mine (by about two feet).
Last year Bryan's Auto made an early exit. Will they be back? Your guess is as good as mine.
The Cardinals should be back to defend their respective title. Congrats to Steve Keller on his nuptials.
In Oriole news, DenDen is at the helm once again and promises that they will be play-off contenders. So do your players know about this? Just kidding boys.
Brewers fans should check out Seany A's humorous website at
www.eteamz.com/Brewers. The Brewers should be fielding the same team and expect to improve on last year's play-off performance. Diver has informed me that his only job will be managing the umpires. In other umpire news...Chopper is leaning towards retirement. Will Big Lou
This year I will be profiling players from all over the league (I mean all
over). Each week a new face will grace the pages of The Wave and the
website. In order to get full coverage of the league I am looking for a
representative from each team to keep me up-to-date.
Anyone looking for a defensive "God" to play third base please contact me, I've got your guy. No really, your team could benefit greatly from this guy's bat and glove. All inquiries regarding the mystery player and any contributions to the latest news and banter should be made to my email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please checkout the league webpage online at www.eteamz.com/jamaicabay.
I must include a disclaimer due to some unsavory sources last year: Some information in the articles is acquired second-hand and at times might not exactly be true (taking a page from the Dicko school of writing). The writer takes no responsibility for this.
