Albert J. Brackley, Jr.
Formerly Of Far Rock


Mass of Christian Burial for Albert J. Brackley, jr. was celebrated on Wednesday, February 9 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in San Diego.
Albert was born in Far Rockaway in 1905. He retired as Superintendent of Mails from The United States Postal Service in Far Rockaway after a career which spanned 32 years. Albert then moved to San Diego, California, and began a second career in motel management.
His hobby was sailing and his boat was called "The Catherine B." He enjoyed world travel with his wife Catherine who preceded him in death in 1977.
Albert is survived by his daughter Barbara B. Dean of San Diego; sons Jerome R. Brackley of Fountain Valley, California, and Albert J. Brackley III of Belle Harbor; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Interment was held at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego.

John P. Cholakis
Rockaway Resident

Mass of Christian Burial for John P. Cholakis was celebrated on Friday, March 17 at Holy Trinity/St. Nicholas Church in Staten Island.
John was a lifelong Rockaway resident who served in the Korean War. He was the proprietor of a local restaurant.
John is survived by his mother Terpse; daughter Terry; brothers Nick and Leon; and sister Linda Lemperes.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Silver Mount Cemetery, Staten Island.

Willie Ruth Dees
Loved By Many
Service for Willie Ruth Dees was held on Wednesday, March 8 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Arverne.
Willie Ruth moved to Queens in 1962, coming from Brooklyn. She was an intelligent woman with an abundance of strength and patients. She had an open heart and home. She was always willing to listen, learn and help as many people as she could.
Willie Ruth is survived by her mother Adgenia; sister Edna; aunts Estell and Elease; her common law husband Robert Hines; daughters Shirley and Debra; sons Timothy and Aaron; daughter-in-law Thomasina; grandchildren Anthony, Shakee, Darrell, Deborah, Saborah, Shamel and Michell; ten nieces and nephews; three goddaughters; and a host of grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and other family and friends.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, Inc., of Inwood, was held at Forest Green Cemetery, Morganville, New Jersey.

Thomas Higgins
Former Local Resident

Thomas Higgins died on Saturday, March 11, 2000, in the VA Hospital, San Diego, California.
He was a World War II veteran and a longtime resident of Far Rockaway.
Thomas is survived by his wife Teresa; daughter Gail Higgins; sons Patrick and Timothy; three grandchildren; brothers James of Inwood and Edward of Copiague; sister Marilyn of Far Rockaway; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held in San Diego, California.

Marion Colon-Martinez
Rockaway Beach Resident

Mass of Christian Burial for Marion Colon-Martinez was celebrated on Wednesday, March 15 at St. Rose of Lima Church.
Marion was a lifelong Rockaway Beach resident. She worked as a dietary assistant at Promenade Nursing Home.
She is survived by her husband Mario Colon-Martinez; son Michael Colon; daughters Ellen Buchanan, Maryann Knox and Diane Colon; and seven grandchildren.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Bernard Murphy
Of Belle Harbor
Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard Murphy was celebrated on Tuesday, March 14 at St. Francis de Sales Church.
Bernard was a Belle Harbor resident for 55 years, coming from Belle Harbor. He worked as a foreman for the Long Island Lighting Company.
Widower of the late Mary, Bernard is survived by his sons Donald Murphy and Bernard Murphy, M.D.; grandchildren Mary Elizabeth, Donald, Joseph, Melissa, Stephen, Peter, Jane and Elizabeth; and seven great-grandchildren.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.

Katherine Adele Murphy
Of Neponsit
Mass of Christian Burial for Katherine Adele Murphy was celebrated on Wednesday, March 15 at St. Francis de Sales Church.
Katherine was a lifelong resident of the Rockaways. She taught at St. Francis de Sales School.
She is survived by her nephews Richard, Kenneth, Francis and Christopher Murphy; nieces Kelly Murphy and Jeanne Cancellieri; and sister-in-law Jean Murphy.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.

Dorothy M. Page
Rockaway Resident
Service for Dorothy M. Page was held on Tuesday, March 14, 2000.
Dorothy was the highlight in her family’s life and will be deeply missed.
She was a Rockaway resident for over 20 years.
Widow of the late Louis, Dorothy is survived by her daughters Judy Girvin, Nancy Waholek, Peggy Page, Gigi Felicione; sons-in-law Walter Waholek and Nicholas Felicione; sisters Grace Girvin and Pat Langley; brother Jim Laddeck; grandchildren Rachel, Andrew, Robert, Matthew, Nicholas and Paige; great-grandson Walter; and a host of loving friends.
She is predeceased by her sister Wanda Laddeck.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor Robertson was celebrated on March 13, 2000 at Sacred Heart Church in Island Park, Long Island.
Widow of the late Donald, Eleanor is survived by her daughters Patricia Dolce, Susan Colberg, Janice Lang, Linda and Nancy; sons Donald and Thomas; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Joanne L. Worsfold
From Far Rockaway

Joanne L. Worsfold died on Saturday, March 11, 2000.
She was a lifetime Far Rockaway resident.
Joanne is survived by her mother Margaret; brother Phillip; sisters Melissa and Kimberly; loving niece Amber; fiancé Robert; and her cat Taz.
Private services were held on Tuesday, March 14, 2000, under the direction of Lawrence Funeral Chapel.

William J. Perpinka
Of Far Rockaway

Mass of Christian Burial for William J. Perpinka was celebrated on Wednesday, March 15 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Inwood.
William was a disabled Vietnam veteran of the US Army.
He is predeceased by his father, the late William J. Perpinka, sr.
William is survived by his mother Julia (nee Paulukonis) of Far Rockaway; son William George Perpinka of Massapequa; sistes Eileen O’Shea of East Northport, Anne K. Winters of Far Rockaway, and Julia A. Kurz of Oceanside.
Interment under the direction of Meserole Funeral Home, Inc., of Inwood, was held at St. Charles Cemetery, Long Island.
