Man Shot In Hammels

Detectives from the 100 Precinct are actively investigating a shooting that occurred in broad daylight in the Hammels housing development that occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Monday, February 28.

According to Sgt. Nappo, director of the 100 Precinct detective squad, a 20 year old black male was shot once in the leg in the courtyard horseshoe located at 84-18 Rockaway Beach boulevard. Nappo told The Wave that the victim, who was not severely injured, said he had been shot by unknown people who approached him in the courtyard.

Nappo said that the department is looking for the cooperation of the community to bring the shooter (s) to justice. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Police Officer Mike Verna of the 100 Precinct Detective Squad at 318-4223.

Information about this shooting can also be reported to the CRIME-STOPPERS Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 can be awarded to the person responsible for providing a tip that results in the arrest and indictment of a fugitive from justice. All information can be kept confidential. All persons are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
