LIPA Making Repairs
The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) announced that a construction project is underway to increase the reliability of the electric supply to the Rockaway peninsula. This project targets the replacement of several thousand feet of electrical transmission cable over the next two weeks.
"I am very pleased this project has begun," LIPA Chairman Richard M. Kessel said. "This project underscores LIPA's commitment to provide our customers with safe and reliable electricity."
While the work is in progress, LIPA customers west of Beach 54 street may experience occasional interruptions of electric service. In the event of a service interruption, customers who depend on electric service to operate emergency or personal medical equipment should ensure they have an alternate plan to service their needs.
LIPA owns the retail electric system on Long Island. LIPA provides electric service to nearly 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaways.
