Tigers Honor Coach, Player

Kearney varsity basketball co-captains Janelle McManus (left) and Jenn Geosits (right) present a trophy to Coach Cathy Crockett, celebrating her 200th game win.

Belle Harbor resident Janelle McManus is all smiles at a party celebrating her 200th career point. She is joined by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin McManus, her brothers and sisters, Kearney principal Sister Joan McAvoy CSJ, and her coaches Cathy Crockett and Kerry O'Grady.

Kearney's varsity basketball team, under the leadership of Coach Cathy Crockett and Assistant Coach Kerry O'Grady, has had a very exciting season. Before Kearney's game against Bishop Loughlin, Coach Cathy Crockett was presented a trophy, marking her 200th game win as a coach.

As the game progressed, it was obvious that Loughlin was out to avenge their two loses to Kearney during the season. Loughlin came on strong, having broken Christ the King's decade long winning streak in league plat. But they could not stop Belle Harbor resident Janelle McManus from hitting a personal milestone--her 200th career point--which came in the second quarter. This was another Kearney first ever!

In Loughlin's 76-54 win, the Lions held McManus to 18 points, snapping her streak of 40 straight games with 20 or more points.

Although the evening did not end as the Tigers would have liked, they showed true sportsmanship by celebrating Janelle's accomplishments with her.
