St. Rose Hits The Court
St. Rose of Lima girls seventh grade basketball team lost by one point to St. Pancras in the playoffs. The girls had a tough season playing against some very strong and more experienced teams. Tracey Clarke and Eileen Jones worked very hard with the girls and they played with a lot of intensity all year. Barbara Ott played well handling the ball. Anna Ott made some nice shots. Tara-Jo Vasselman was a force on the boards. Elizabeth Hennessey dominated the inside. Amy Fortuna did a great job on the boards. Tiffany Bryant showed great improvement throughout the year. Unique Rainer played well on the defensive end. Siobhan Lyons also played well.
The boys fifth grade team had their last two games cancelled and finished the season in third place with a 6-5 record. First-year coach Luis Ayala did a tremendous job with the team.
The boys sixth grade team won their last two in easy fashion. Darius Gabriel dazzled the crowd with his play making. Woody Barnett dominated the offensive end. Johnathan Grinage had his best offensive game. Sherman Davis has been improving handling the ball. Donald Glover played well on both ends. Warren Hollingsworth hit a great jump shot from the corner. Timmy Davis hustled all over the floor. Jordan Hill played well on the offensive end. Josh Anderson played well in limited action. They finished the season 8-3 in second place.
The boys seventh grade won an easy game. They were led by Pat Miley on the offensive end. Mike Lonigro and Richard Luster dominated the inside. Timmy Williams and Jamal McBride did a god job handling the ball. Brain Ward and Jimmy Nellan helped out on the defensive end. Stanley Sanders hustled all over the floor playing excellent defense. They finished the season 9-3 in second place.
The boys eighth grade team had its last game cancelled and finished the season 12-2 in second place. The long awaited rematch with Gate of Heaven never came off due to a scheduling problem at Gate of Heaven.
All the teams make the playoffs, which should begin this week.
