Valentine’s Day Shooting

Cops Need Help With Robbery

By Joan Ward George

Two young expectant parents were taken by surprise early Valentine’s Day evening when they were approached by a would be robber as they were walking in the direction of St. John’s Hospital for a Lamaze class.

According to detectives at the 101 Precinct a young black couple were walking in the area of Edgemere Avenue and Fernside Place at about 7:20 p.m. Monday enroute to St. John’s Hospital when a male Hispanic came upon them demanding their property. The male victim refused to turn over the item that the perp demanded and was shot in the neck. His pregnant girlfriend was not injured during the robbery attempt.

The perpetrator has been described by police as a male Hispanic, between the ages of 20 and 30, 6 feet tall and approximately 185 pounds. Anyone who may have been a witness to the robbery/shooting is asked to call Detective Lisa McClean at the 101 Precinct Detective Squad at 868-3429.

The male victim was originally listed in critical condition, but upgraded to stable condition by Wednesday. The couple’s name is being kept confidential by police at this time to protect their safety.
