Change In Sanitation Schedule

There will be no street cleaning, refuse, or recycling collection conducted by the New York City Department of Sanitation on Monday, February 21, 2000, in observance of President's Day/Washington's Birthday.

Regarding the collection schedule, residents who normally receive Monday garbage collection should place their trash out at curbside Monday evening for Tuesday collection. These residents may experience a slight disruption of on time household collection service.

Areas with Monday alternate week curbside recycling collection will receive service on Tuesday, February 22, 2000. Areas with Monday weekly recycling collection schedules will receive collection on Monday, February 28, 2000.

Shopkeepers, restaurant managers, and other merchants who are serviced by private carting companies should contact their refuse haulers to determine whether they will receive collection on the holiday.

Refuse unlawfully left out over a holiday could subject homeowners and owners of commercial establishments to a fine of up to $250, as well as create a potential health hazard and an eyesore.

The department's administrative office will be closed on Monday, February 21 in observance of the holiday.
