City Has Plans For Edgemere Land
Public Hearing Scheduled Next Thursday
New York City Housing Authority will hold a public hearing on February 24, 2000 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Benjamin N. Cardozo Middle School (MS 198), located at 365 Beach 56 street.
The subject of this hearing will be the proposed acquisition of property located at Beach 53-54 streets between Beach Channel drive and Rockaway Beach boulevard (Tax block 15890, lots 54,55,58,62,64,66 and 69). This hearing will be conducted in order to inform the public of the proposed public project being considered for this property.
The planned acquisition is part of the $170 million HOPE VI revitalization project for the Arverne and Edgemere Public Houses. The site is presently a dilapidated shopping center. Under HOPE VI, money would be earmarked for construction of a new state-of-the art shopping center, offering quality stores and services.
Any person attending the hearing will be given an opportunity to present an oral or written statement and to submit other documents concerning the proposed public project and/or proposed acquisition. Each speaker at the hearing will have a maximum of 10 minutes to make an oral statement. Written statements and documents will be accepted at the hearing and for a period of 30 calendar days after the hearing.
