Beach Channel High School

At Beach Channel High School we have a wide variety of courses available to the student who wishes to seriously pursue music or who is looking for development of the skill as a hobby. Students can learn a new instrument, improve performance on an instrument, which they started in elementary school, or participate in the mixed chorus or gospel choir. The school marching band has participated in several parades and the gospel choir. The school marching band has participated in several parades and the gospel choir and mixed chorus have performed at local businesses and nursing homes.

Children who learn to play a musical instrument or who cultivate their singing develop an ability for self-expression, which cannot be attained in a strictly academic environment. Although there is no Regents exam given at the present time, one is planned of the future. The state currently requires students to take one-half year of music to qualify for graduation with a New York State or New York City diploma. Students who take music courses do so enthusiastically.

Courses offered through the music program include concert band, chorus, gospel chorus, guitar, brass/woodwinds, percussion I, percussion II, and training band.
