Swimming Record Set
The Broad Channel Athletic Club girls swim team officially started its 2000 season Friday, February 4.
B.C.A.C.'s coaches congratulated Ms. Lillian Foster, who set a record at the CYO swim sectionals last season. Lillian took first in the Bantam 25-yard butterfly event, finishing in just 14.74 seconds, setting a CYO record.
"Swimming competition, like many sports, is very competitive and in order to take or break a CYO record, the swimmer must be dedicated to the sport," said Margaret Wagner of the B.C.A.C. "Lillian and her sister Charlene practice swimming almost every day and their talents show every time they enter the pool. It's wonderful to see a B.C.A.C. swimmer in the record book."
On Friday the B.C.A.C. girls had their first swim meet against St. Sebastions.
Placing second in their events were Patricia Jackson, Charlene Fosteris, Bianca Malcaus, Jennifer Garcia, Katie Willsen, Kathleen Madden, Erica O'Sullivan, Maureen O'Sullivan, Katie Conner, Meghan McCarville, Kate O'Sullivan, Jessica Kroog, Lauren Carter, Elizabeth Hennessey, Danielle Riss-Meyer, and Samantha Durant.
"Our beginners did a great job in their events," said Wagner. "This being their first swim competition the coaches are very proud of Shannon Minihane, Amy Zeller and Sinead Gallen."
