Under the direction of Rockaway resident Coach Steven Gigliello, the Brooklyn Tech High School varsity boy’s basketball team is once again in position to compete in the Brooklyn II A division PSAL playoffs for the city-wide championship.
Gigliello, a Rockaway Beach resident for 10 years, keeps a low profile in our community with wife Maureen and their three young children. Yet basketball is the tie that binds the driving force in their quiet family. Maureen Gigliello is the "stellar" girl’s varsity basketball coach at local Stella Maris High School. Both husband and wife have occasionally been seen at each other’s games, cheering each other on, toddlers in tow. The couple’s first born son, not yet old enough for organized play, got his basketball skills started at a St. Francis de Sales clinic this season.
Watch out, Rockaway basketball fans. The Gigliello family will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
Area teens Andre Kilkenny of Arverne and Mike Louis of Broad Channel also bring pride to the peninsula as they round out their senior year at Brooklyn Tech with a winning varsity basketball season record of 15-8 and a shot at the PSAL playoffs.
Both starting players have "worked their way through the ranks," stated Coach Gigliello. While maintaining the high academic average required of Brooklyn Tech High School students, Kilkenny, a point guard, and Louis, a shooting guard, have given their all to the game.
