Take A Better Route

Dear Editor;

(Statement to Federal Aviation Authority at a recent hearing.)

I am the Democratic district leader in the 23 Assembly District, which is adjacent to JFK Airport. For too long my constituents have been suffering from unbearable aircraft noise levels which have lessened our quality of life.

I think it is time for your agency to study redesigning air traffic routes. The new satellite-based technology can be used to narrow air traffic routes and direct the aircraft over narrow stretches of water or industrial areas as opposed to residential areas. The funds used in the redesigning of air traffic routes is a small price to pay when you consider the health and well being of the residents in our community.

I thank you for this opportunity to address this serious situation.
