Lew Puts Heat On

Dear Editor;

On Saturday, January 29, we and two neighbors on our block, 127th street, were faced with a water main freeze, and had no water. I made several calls to city agencies, and to Lew Simon. The response of the Department of Environmental Protection was "call a plumber." For eight days I hauled buckets of water from sympathetic neighbors over an icy path. During this time, Lew Simon made repeated contacts with city agencies, and called me almost daily as well, and by Friday night was able to report that the DEP would send a repair crew the following day.

Evidently, when the storm sewer was installed a couple of years ago, it
was necessary to disconnect some of the house water mains, and they then failed to reconnect the mains at the proper depth to prevent freezing.
We especially want to thank Lew Simon for his concern and his effective efforts on our behalf.
