St. Rose of Lima's girls seventh grade finished the regular basketball season with a strong win over OLPH.
Anna Ott continued to play well on the offensive end and has done a good job handling the ball. Tiffany Bryant has improved her play on both ends and showed great hustle. Barbara Ott was a force on defense disrupting the OLPH offense. Unique Rainer was a dominating force on the boards. Elizabeth Hennessey continues to play well on the inside and has made some nice shots. Amy Fortuna had some nice rebounds. Siobhan Lyons has played well in limited playing time. Tara-Jo Vasselman played great defense. The team opened the playoffs the week.
The fifth grade boys continued to play up and down winning against St. Thomas Apostle and losing to OLPH and Gate of Heaven. Michael Hennessey has played well on the defensive end. Derrick Butler hustled all over the floor. Anthony Jeffries handled the ball well. Danny Jeffries made some nice shots. Rickie Ivory dominated both ends. Jose Castellanos was a defensive stopper. Luis Irizzarry showed great hustle. Jason Irizzarry hade some key rebounds. Basil Davis played well. Justin Allen also played well.
The sixth grade boys have started to jell winning their last two over OLPH and St. Helen. Darius Gabriel made some great drives to the hoop and has keyed the defense. Ronnie Smalls has shut down the other teams best shooters each game. Timmy Davis has been the most improved player this year and additional playing time is really helping his game. Sherman Davis has done a great job handling the ball in traffic and made some key shots. Johnathan Grinage has started to make his move on the offensive end leading the inside scoring. Donald Glover played good defense. Woody Barnett hit a three pointer to start the second half against St. Helens and has been a force on the offensive boards. Warren Hollingsworth has played well on both ends.
The boys seventh grade continues to play some of the best ball at St. Rose. The team defeated St. Thomas Apostle in two games and St. Francis De Sales in one game. The St. Francis De Sales game is a tribute to the hard work by the team and its coach Bob Miley and was their first win over St. Francis in four years. Jamel McBride has controlled the ball and made some great assists. Pat Miley has greatly improved his ball handling and his ability to score from the outside. Brian Ward has hit some key shots. Jimmy Nellan has been a great addition to the team playing smart basketball. Timmy Williams has done a great job looking for his team mates and doing more ballhandling than scoring as his game has really matured. Mike Lonigro has become a force on the inside taking some of the pressure of Richie Luster. Richie Luster continued to dominate the paint ahd has shown some quick feet to go with his size. Stanley Sanders has played well on both ends and has been a great team player.
Boys eighth grade won two easy games over St. Thomas More and St. Francis De Sales. The team was led by slashing drives to the basket by Omar Walker and Derrick Gabriel. Quavon Anderson has dominated the paint. Ryan Roberts has helped key the fast break with some great outlet passes. Willie Davis played tremendous defense. John Louis has helped out on both ends and continues to play under control. Krashief Wright made some nice shots. Leegin Jeffries has shown good hustle. Sharod Perdue has been a great rebounder. Ryan Willsen made sonme nice steals. Felix Cruz played some tough half court defense. Robert Sainvil made some good shots from the outside.
