By John McLoughlin

Sixty-two firefighters from 14 units, responded to an 'all-hands' fire at 1478 Beach Channel drive on Wednesday evening, February 2. The fire, which was on the fourth floor of a seven-story brick building, was called in at 11:31 p.m.

No injuries were reported, but two police officers from the 101 Precinct were rescued after being trapped in the elevator. The officers were attempting to help tenants when the elevator stopped running. Engine Companies 264 and 328 and Ladder Companies 134 and 121 assisted the officers out of the elevator and both were brought to St. John's Episcopal Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire, which was under control at 11:52 p.m., was ruled "suspicious" by the Fire Department and is still under investigation.
