Way To Go, Mure’s

Dear Editor:

We read Sean O’Leary’s mean spirited letter in last week’s edition and feel a great need to respond to his vitriol.

First, we are the neighbors that he seems to care so much about and we want him to know that Joe Mure’s efforts on behalf of Juvenile Diabetes are done with the support of the majority of us. Our homes face the display and it causes no hardship at all. The cars and the people who visit our block are quiet, orderly and friendly. We welcome them with open arms. Our community could use more of this sense of sharing and peace.

Secondly, we question his motives in writing such a scathing condemnation of someone he most likely doesn’t even know. What has Sean O’Leary ever done to equal the Mure family’s contribution to a worthy cause? The work and the planning that Joe Mure does every year is an unselfish gift to Rockaway and his efforts should be praised and appreciated.

As for his insinuations that there is some nefarious scam being perpetrated, and tax schemes being plotted, they are cynical and shameful accusations to make without any proof whatsoever.

Mr. O’Leary’s ideas of "gaudy" and "tactless" display surely demonstrate his warped sense of holiday fun. He is certainly entitled to his opinion but we suggest that he ask the children who come here how they feel about it.

To our friend and neighbor we say, "Way to go Joe. God bless your efforts."

Mr. O’Leary, please do us all a favor and stay away from our block.
