Not In The Spirit
I must take issue with Sean O'Leary (Wave, Dec 31, 1999). He wrote a rather scathing letter about a family who received press coverage for an elaborate Christmas display. Not that Mr. O'Leary wasn't
100 percent on the money about how god-awful the display is. It is, indeed, gaudy and ostentatious and obviously self-grandizing. Look closely and the toy soldiers look embarrassed by the tackiness.
Ah, but O'Leary deserves some coal as well. He took the time to write a letter to the paper about the sins of another---now if that isn't against the Christmas spirit, what is!
Of course, by writing this letter I'm no better than O'Leary, a plain old grinch. I'm going to atone for my sins by praying that O'Leary and the owners of the North Pole meet under
some mistletoe (without lights, of course).
