At 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, the Brothers family of Breezy Point won a trip for 20 to Disney from ABC-TV. Weatherman Bill Evans pulled their name.

The Wave contacted Councilman Noach Dear, chairman of the City Council Transportation Committee, and informed him about the deteriorating conditions under the freeway. Many of the dividers preventing cars from crossing the freeway have been removed or bent and pieces of concrete have fallen loose. Dear's office promised that the Department of Transportation would visit the site and make necessary repairs.

Kudos to Engine Company 265 and Ladder Company 121 on Beach 59 street and Rockaway Beach boulevard. Mayor Giuliani honored them for donating gifts and a Christmas tree to a needy family of the Beach 41 Street Houses. Good work guys!

We've had some complaints about local stores overcharging for the holidays. One store was charging $21.99 for Pokeman Yellow before the holidays and was asking $90 during the Christmas rush.

An American hero passed on this week. Clayton Moore, who played The Lone Ranger, died of a heat attack at the age of 85. We will forever remember that "masked man"…"Hi Yo, Silver! Away!"

Temple Israel, located at 188 Beach 84 street, is in the process of trying to establish landmark status. They hope this will give them the push they need to save their congregation.

Notice the days are getting longer. Since December 21, a few minutes will be added on each week until, before you know it, we have to put our clocks ahead an hour again!

Get ready to make some noise about airplane noise. The Federal government will have a hearing on February 3 at the Ramada Plaza JFK. Make sure you schedule this meeting into your calendar. It could lead to modifications in air traffic routes over Rockaway.

Have a happy and healthy New Year's. Take this New Year to live life to its fullest. Don't hold any punches--and don't ever have regrets!
