Cummings Says :Apply For Flood Relief Aid Now Applications for flood relief are now available to victims of the January 3, 1999 flood that left many Arverne residents with damage to their homes. Assemblywoman Pauline Rhodd-Cummings informed The Wave that Governor Pataki’s State Emergency Management Office released the application forms last week and will be available in her Far Rockaway office at 1931 Mott avenue, suite 301. The offices of State Senator Alton Waldon, jr. and Councilwoman Juanita Watkins will also have forms available to the public. "I have asked you to be patient and your patience has prevailed," said Member of Assembly Rhodd-Cummings. With the availability of these forms, New York State is now prepared to issue up to $500,000 in relief aid to the victims of the January 3 flood. Assemblywoman Rhodd-Cummings added, "I am pleased to inform you that through the efforts of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, we were able to move this initiative forward and provide relief to the January 3 storm victims in a timely fashion." In February of this year, Cummings met with Governor Pataki, Councilwoman Watkins, Assemblyman Scarborough, and State Senator Alton Waldon, jr. to bring this matter to the attention of the governor. While initially receptive, the governor placed this aid in the state budget, which has yet to pass. With the aid of Silver, the relief package was drafted into a special piece of legislation in the last week of March. This flood relief aid is the product of that work, initiated by Member of Assembly Rhodd-Cummings.
