Mass of Christian Burial for Eugenia Arroyo was celebrated on Saturday, December 11 at St. Gertrudes Church.
Eugenia is survived by her sons Jose and Victor; daughters Maria Arroyo and Gloria Gonzalez; brother Serdio Diaz of Puerto Rico; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Interment under the direction of Lawrence Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Cyress Hills Cemetery.
Betty Lou Askew, Family From Here
Service for Betty Lou Askew was held on Thursday, December 2, 1999.
Betty was born to Mr. and Mrs. Porter Askew of Harrison County, Georgia. She came to New York at a very young age, where she met the late Arthur Lee Miller.
She worked as a salesperson in Cedarhurst Jewelry Store. Her favorite hobbies were listening to music and cooking. She was a very outspoken person. She loved children and was always willing to help and listen to anyone.
Betty is survived by her son Ardie Askew; grandchildren Rahmel Fields and Le’andre Renee Chervette Askew; sister Laura Cohplen; sister-in-law Minnie Jasper; brother-in-law Donnie Jasper; special friend Sunshine; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, Inc., of Inwood, was held at Forrest Green Park Cemetery, Morganville, New Jersey.
Barbara A. Bradford
Broad Channel Resident
Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara A. Bradford was celebrated on Saturday, December 11 at St. Virgilius Church.
Born in Brooklyn, Barbara attended St. Sylvester Grammar School and Far Rockaway High School.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents, the late Louis and Vivien Pazienza.
She is survived by her husband Kenny; children Timothy Bradford of Broad Channel, Barbara Dougherty of Broad Channel, and Kimberly Walker of Rockaway; brother Bill Pazienza; and two future grandchildren.
Private services were held under the direction of Hillebrand Funeral Home, Inc., of Broad Channel.
Patrick Faulhaber, From Rockaway
Patrick Faulhaber died on December 4, 1999.
Son of Robert and the late Margaret Faulhaber, Patrick is survived by his sisters Maryann, Jane and Beth; brothers Robert, John, Thomas and James (Liz); nephews Anthony, Jimmy and Matteo; nieces Tina and Heather; and many loving aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen Leslie was celebrated on Tuesday, December 14 at St. Rose of Lima Church.
Kathleen died December 10, 1999 in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Staten Island.
Originally from Rockaway Beach, Kathleen recently resided in Staten Island.
She was born in Limerick City, County Limerick, Ireland.
Kathleen worked as a custodian for the New York City Board of Education.
She is predeceased by her sister, the late Christine Lynch and her brothers, the late Patrick and William Leslie and Frederick Hockedy.
Kathleen is survived by her sister Margaret Leslie; five nieces; one nephew; nine great nieces and nephews; and two great-greatnieces.

Alice T. Lynch, Belle Harbor Resident
Mass of Christian Burial for Alice T. Lynch was celebrated on Wednesday, December 15 at St. Francis De Sales Church.
Alice was a life-time Belle Harbor resident. She taught CCD at St. Francis Grammar School.
Widow of the late John J. Lynch and mother of the late Andrew, Alice is survived by her sons John, James, William and Walter; daughter Victoria A. McLoughlin; brother William Grunen; sister Helen McCrory; grandchildren Victoria, Gabriella and Kayla Lynch, James and Gregory McLoughlin, John, Christine and Jacqueline Lynch, William, Sean and Jessica Lynch.

Diana M. Raia, Rockaway Resident
Diana M. Raia died December 8, 1999.
She was a Rockaway Beach resident for the past five years, coming from Manhattan.
Diana worked for a finance company.
She is survived by her parents Carmela and Frank Raia; son Edward Cahoon, brother Paul, and sister Francis.
A memorial mass for Diana was celebrated on Monday, December 13 at St. Rose of Lima Church.
Steven F. Schwartz, NYFD Paramedic
Steven F. Schwartz died October 6, 1999 at North Shore University Hospital.
He was a life-long resident of Rockaway Park who recently lived in Inwood.
Steven was a paramedic for the New York Fire Department, serving 19 years as a lieutenant. Most of his service took place in the Rockaways.
He is survived by his wife Patricia (nee Waters) and his sons Scott, Michael and Douglas.

Shirley Temple Shuford
Loved Her Family
Service for Shirley Temple Shuford was held on December 2, 1999.
She was born in Salisbury, North Carolina to Alice and Leroy Shuford.
Shirley came to New York in 1954, where she worked for Chain Bike in Arverne and Neponsit Health Care as a nurse’s aide until her retirement in 1997.
She will be remembered by many and missed by all.
She is survived by her sons Wayne, Chauncey and Kenneth; daughters Joyce Newsome, Kathryn Jones, Myra Shuford and Shannon O’Neal; brothers Frank and Clyde; sister Mamie; grandchildren Wayne jr., Rashaad, Elisha, Koretney, Michael, Jason, Chauncey jr., Elliot, Quinton, Kahbar, Jerron, John, Danielle, Randy, Troy, Amber, Naamah, Khadijah, Temple and Kalal.

World War II Veteran
Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Toscano was celebrated on Saturday, December 11 at St. Camillus Church.
Joseph served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He later worked as an aircraft mechanic for Lockheed Aircraft.
He was a Rockaway Park resident for 25 years, coming from the Bronx. Joseph was a past Commander of O’Connell Post as well as a past Chaplin. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Widower of the late Josephine (nee Raynor) and the late Eleanor Tuscano, Joseph is survived by his son Joseph jr., daughter Mary Toscano; grandchildren Robert Levy and Hope Prudenti; and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret M. Tumelty

Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret M. Tumelty was celebrated on Friday, December 17 at St. Camillus Church in Rockaway Park.
Margaret was a Rockaway Park resident for 40 years, coming from the Bronx. She was a native of Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland.
She was a member of St. Rose Young at Heart, St. Camillus’ Golden Age Society, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Margaret is survived by her husband Philip; son John; daughters Mary P. Tumelty, Eileen McManus, and Margaret Tumelty; sister Agnes Jennings; grandchildren Thomas Tumelty and Philip McManus.
She is predeceased by her brothers, the late Thomas, Luke and Edward Farrelly and her sisters, the late Kathleen Quinn, Anne Tansey, Bridget Corry, Susan O’Reily, Maureen Duffy and Theresa Farrelly.

Mildred A. Turner
Service for Mildred Turner was held on Saturday, December 4. She died November 28, 1999 in St. John’s Hospital in Far Rockaway.
Mildred was a special, loveable person. She was educated in the Bronx and received numerous awards for working with teens and adults suffering from addictions. She also worked at Creedmoor Hospital for five years.
Mildred was predeceased by her loving son, the late Lawrence Turner.
She is survived by her son Anthony Turner of Far Rockaway; daughters-in-law Cassandra Ellenbrook of Far Rockaway and Lisa Sashington of South Carolina; grandchildren Malisher Glover, Tankiqua and Phantaisa Ellenbrook, and Karteles, Ashley and Anthony Turner, jr.; and a host of relatives and friends. William E. Weber, Born In Rockaway
William E. Weber died on November 30, 1999.
Bill attended P.S. 44 and Far Rockaway High School. He was a pressman and active union member for 53 years in the New York City newspapers.
Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2672 from its founding and an avid surf fisherman. In later years he fished in Jamaica Bay.
He was loved and respected by all he knew.
Bill is survived by his daughter Patricia Shachtman; sister Mary Schapira; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The burial was at St. Mary Star of the Sea in Lawrence.
Kate Wilson, Loved By Many
Service for Kate Wilson was held on Friday, December 3, 1999.
Kate came to New York at an early age. She met and married the late Bishop Julius Wilson.
She worked for Broadway Pen Co. for twenty years. Later, she and her husband opened a restaurant.
Kate joined a gospel group called Sincere Jubilee Singers and later joined the co-ed gospel singers. The group traveled everywhere, singing and giving praise.
She was predeceased by her loving brother the late R.J. Hardwick and her niece Wanda Hicks.
Kate is survived by her daughter Rosa; granddaughters Arlene and Willamae; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, friends and neighbors.

Bess Zogas, Rockaway Resident
Bess Zogas (nee Carnavos) died on December 8, 1999. Mass was celebrated on December 11, 1999 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Jamaica.
Bess was a lifetime resident of the Rockaways and an active member of her community all her life. She worked at Neponsit Home for the Aged for 20 years and gave much of her time to the Philip Port Cancer Unit, as well as to her church.
She is survived by her loving husband Nicholas, her son Peter N. Zogas, her daughter Jeanne Manas and five wonderful grandchildren George, Nicholas, Valerie, Nicholas and Jacqueline, all of whom she was always so very proud of.
She is and always will be truly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
Interment under the direction of Litras Funeral Home was held at Cyprus Hills Cemetery, Cyprus Hills.
