Garbage Pickup Schedule Changes

There will be no street cleaning, refuse, or recycling collection conducted by the New York City Department of Sanitation on Saturday, December 25 in observance of Christmas Day. However, residents who normally receive Saturday garbage collection should place their trash out at curbside Saturday evening for a unique Sunday, December 26 collection.

Residents scheduled for Saturday, December 25 alternate week recycling collection will receive service on Sunday, December 26. Residents who normally receive Saturday weekly recycling collection should not place their recyclables out at curbside since they are not scheduled for service. These residents should place their recyclables out at curbside starting Friday, New Year's Eve, December 31 for collection on Saturday, New Year's Day, January 1, and continuing Sunday, January 2.

Areas that are scheduled to receive refuse and recycling collection on Monday, December 27 should place their trash at curbside as normally scheduled.

Shopkeepers, restaurant managers, and other merchants who are serviced by private carting companies should contact their refuse haulers to determine whether they will receive collection on the holiday.

Starting Monday, January 3, residents are reminded that the Department of Sanitation will be collecting discarded live Christmas trees and wreaths from curbside throughout the city to be used as compost. Discarded live Christmas trees and wreaths should be free of its stand, lights, ornaments, tinsel and must not be bagged.
