Locals Are Generous

Dear Editor;

We often read about what's wrong with Rockaway. Well, I'm happy to report that in spite of some shortcomings, we are a generous community. As was reported in the Wave a couple of months ago, I rowed around Manhattan island to generate awareness of and support for the American Lung Association of New
York.

Since that time, friends and neighbors have responded enthusiastically to the association's need for funds to fight lung disease, especially asthma among New York City's children. Let's face it, as parents, what can be more terrifying than seeing your child gasping for breath? During the last two months I have collected over $2,200, which puts me within spitting distance of my $3,000 target. It is my hope that I can collect the balance between now and the end of the year so I won't have to beg my kids to
help me hand out any more flyers.

There is still time to make your tax-deductible contribution for 1999. If
you haven't already done so, make your check payable to the "American Lung Association of New York" and send it in care of me: Rick Horan, 246 Beach 127 street, Belle Harbor, New York 11694. The American Lung Association of New York will acknowledge all contributions in writing. Again, thanks for your generosity and support.

RICK HORAN
