From the Shores of

Beach Channel High School

A special thank you to the friends of Beach Channel High School…

By all accounts, Beach Channel High School's first Thanksgiving Day dinner for senior citizens was a huge success. This success would never have been possible without the contributions of our local merchants. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the following:

Frank Gallagher, proprietor, Snug Harbor restaurant; Kenneth and Steven Good, proprietors, The Beach Club; Bernard Heeran, proprietor, Harbor Light; Key Food; and Waldbaum's Supermarket.

Again, without the generosity of the above, this Thanksgiving dinner would have never taken place.

However, the ultimate test, of course, came on Thanksgiving Day itself. The menu, which consisted of fruit cocktail, roast turkey (donated by our staff and members of the Rockaway community), mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, stuffing, gravy, various pies, teas, and coffee, were served by Beach Channel staff and students. Our band played under the direction of Barry Domfort.

Many teachers said it was the proudest day of their careers. They watched their students serve as waiters and waitresses, talking and laughing with the guests, and dancing with the seniors. Many guests commented on the fine service and friendliness of our students. A school is measured by its students. If the friendliness and generosity of our students on Thanksgiving Day is any indication, then Beach Channel High School is indeed a success.
