Locals Are Generous
In these pages we often read about what's wrong with Rockaway. Well, I'm happy to report that in spite of some shortcomings, we are a generous community. As was reported in the Wave a couple of months ago, I rowed around Manhattan island to generate awareness of and support for the American Lung Association.
Since that time my friends and neighbors here in Rockaway have responded enthusiastically to the association's need for funds to fight lung disease, especially asthma among New York City's children. During the last two months I have collected over $2,200, which puts me within spitting distance of the $3,000 target.
Every weekend my kids and I will continue to pass out flyers in the hope that we will achieve our goal before the end of the year when the drive will come to an end. There is still time to make your tax-deductible contribution (made payable to the "American Lung Association of New York") before this drive ends. Checks should be sent to me at the following address: Rick Horan, 246 Beach 127 street, Belle Harbor, New York 11694. The American Lung Association of New York will acknowledge all contributions in writing.
Again, thanks for your generosity and support.
