We Want Litter Baskets

Dear Editor;

The following letter, together with over 400 signatures, was sent to Mr. R. Sabatella, chief of cleaning, Department of Sanitation: I am enclosing the first two pages of many pages of a petition that is being circulated by a concerned group of our community for signatures, copies of which are also being sent to Councilman Stabile as well as our local newspaper The Wave, along with a copy of this letter to you. As we continue to get signatures we will forward them on to you. As this is a very important issue to the residents of Rockaway, I would appreciate your favorable response at your earliest possible convenience. Thank you in advance.

The petition reads--We, the residents of Rockaway Park, respectfully request that litter baskets be placed at the southend of each street from Beach 116 to Beach 126 street. Our reason for this request is that there is no place to dispose of cigarette, candy wrappers, newspapers, dog feces, etc., as there is on many streets in New York. Also the same type of refuse is blown, by the wind from the boardwalk onto our streets. The Department of Sanitation trucks must pass the spots where the basket would be placed in order to make their turn to proceed from these dead end streets. We look forward to a favorable reply mailed to: Bob Rauch, 160 Beach 117 street, Rockaway Park, New York. Copies of this article in The Wave will be sent to all of our local representatives.
