Don’t Get Scammed

By Joan Ward George

During the holiday season, the local police advise, that even though it’s the time of year when people feel like giving. . .be careful and don’t get scammed.

According to Police Sgt. Artie Nappo, head of the 100 Precinct Detective Squad, people need to take extra care to look out for pickpockets, games of chance, and scams where people are looking for donations, and the like, for charities that don’t really exist.

Nappo cautions all Rockawayites, especially senior citizens, not to be duped by con artists. "It’s important that people always take care to be aware of their surroundings and of others who would take advantage," said Nappo. "But everyone should be on the alert particularly during the holiday season."
