U.S. Open Beckons Neponsit Kid

Brian Dushock, a Neponsit resident and seventh grader at St. Francis de Sales School, took first place in two Unite States Tennis Association tournaments during the past month.

On November 7, Brian, age 12, captured the Level II Metro-Regional Championship (12 and under division) at Oceanview Tennis in Brooklyn. Two weeks prior, he came out on top in a Level III UPS tournament (12 and under division) at Hempstead Lake indoor tennis in Hempstead, Long Island.

These were the first USTA sanctioned events in which Brian has participated. His desire is to become a professional competitor and play against the best in the world.

Mike, Brian's father/coach, is well known in Rockaway as the one who made learning how to play the game fun and exciting. Now he has taken his son under his wing. The two practice at Hempstead Lake, where Mike is a teaching pro.

Brian plans to enter another USTA sponsored Metro-Region event during the holiday season. Through it all, Brian realizes that his academic studies are extremely important and cannot be ignored.
