Disappointed With Lew

Dear Editor;

I am disappointed that Lew M. Simon in his column Simon Says was not gracious enough to mention that my good friend Democratic District Leader Geraldine Chapey was selected as an honorary grand marshal by the Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. The disappointment is greater because he made it a point to highlight and praise himself as being selected as the male honorary grand marshal. He also highlighted by name and praised each of the honorees but Geraldine Chapey.

As an added Simon touch, he wrote, "Former State Committeeman Stephan Cooper personally congratulated me and said we are doing a fantastic job in our community." I never used the word "fantastic" to describe anything. Also, I did not know that Mr. Simon was an honorary marshal until later in the evening after I left his table during the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee's Dance at the Beach Club.

I will now be gracious enough to congratulate him for being selected as
honorary grand marshal as I already did to my friend Geraldine. However, I do not think Mr. Simon needs anyone to praise him. He works at it using his Wave column to constantly praise and inflate himself for almost anything that happens. He also uses his column to obviously ingratiate himself with anyone who can be a possible vote for him.

I guess it is still a free country and he can write what he wishes and I can still write a response if I feel it is helpful.

STEPHEN A. COOPER
