Chatting With Chapey
On Saturday, November 13, Gerdi and Sidney Streisand invited us to attend a birthday bash for Sidney. They invited 50 members of their family and friends to join in the joyous celebration. The party was held at the Empire Buffet on Cross Bay boulevard. The food was excellent. Everyone was raving about their superb cuisine. The presentations of the various items made a big hit. The service could not have been better. The restaurant has a wonderful vitality. Our party had a beautiful view of the water. Everyone who attended recommends the restaurant highly.
I must also say a special thank you to Gerdi and Sidney Steisand
for inviting us. They are a dynamic duo. They are a very gracious host
and hostess. They are people who know how to work hard and how to share their successes with others. Gerdi and Sidney have been outstanding community leaders for many years. They love their neighborhood and are willing to make a strong commitment to working toward its betterment. We are lucky to have the Streisands in our community. We are very pleased to
count them as our very good friends.
On Thursday, November 11, I joined with Congressman Anthony Weiner at a press conference. Congressman Weiner is working diligently to support the needs of his district. He recently brought a check for Charles Park for $1.2 million. On Veteran's Day he presented Riis Park with a check for $450,000 to refurbish the playground for tots. This money will provide the tots with a beautiful and safe area in which to play. Congressman Weiner also addressed the issue of the pool in Riis Park. Since this project will cost approximately $28 million to complete, Congressman Weiner is developing a plan to secure the appropriate funds.
Last, Friday we had the opportunity to participate in a wonderful
Irish event. Carmel Quinn appeared in concert. Her theatrical presence is
wonderful. She has a fantastic sense of humor, which really catches the
Irish spirit. She sang so many Irish and American songs. She captured my heart when she sang Galway Bay. It is one of my favorites because when we were growing up, my Uncle Joe would sing it when we visited my grandparent's house for Sunday dinner. Carmel Quinn's concert was held in Father Hession hall in Roxbury. Carmel introduced several of her cousins from Ireland who are here on holiday. At the end of the evening Carmel Quinn received several standing ovations. No one in attendance wanted the concert to end.
Thanks to Ronnie Mc Carthy and her committee for sponsoring this event.
St. Rose of Lima held a wonderful card party on Saturday evening.
The hall was beautifully decorated. The prizes were very well presented.
Each section was color-coded. Everyone had a good time. It was a great
fundraiser for the school. Congratulations to all involved.
St. Camillus had a night at the races on Saturday. What a fantastic concept! Everyone had an opportunity to participate in each race. It gives each person in the audience the chance to join in. The organizers were able to execute a very pleasant evening. The school has a wonderful way of raising funds. The committee that arranged the evening should be complimented.
West End Temple had a gala flea market on Saturday and Sunday.
They had a great variety of items from housewares to jewelry to clothing. It was wonderful to see so many friends. Since I always like to shop it
was great to be able to purchase items while catching up with my neighbors. Kudos to the committee that brought this event to a successful conclusion.
On Sunday, St. Francis de Sales had an art show. Kitchen Kreations
presented a marvelous array of chocolates. If you need a centerpiece for your holiday parties call them. They are excellent. They are very talented and can make items to your specifications.
It's great to be able to participate in these varied activities. Check the local newspaper so that you can join in these delightful events.
