Mass of Christian Burial for Paul L. Cristofani was celebrated on Wednesday, November 3 at St. Thomas More Church in Breezy Point.
He died October 31 in Peninsula Hospital Center.
Paul was an Army veteran who later worked as a banker.
He is survived by daughters Carolyn and Catherine and son Paul.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc., of Rockaway Park, was held at St. John’s Cemetery, Queens.
Far Rockaway Alumnus
Marion DeGruchy (nee Cavooris) died October 30, 1999.
Born at Rockaway Beach Hospital to Peter and Marie Cavooris of Beach 114 street, Marion graduated from Far Rockaway High School and S.U.N.Y. Farmingdale. She worked as a stewardess for Eastern Airlines and recently retired from the Trane Company.
Always a lover of the outdoor life, Marion had fond memories of living in Rockaway and later became an avid golfer with her Long Island friends.
She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth; daughters Marie Pullan and Diane Calderone; sons John and Kenneth Peter; brothers George and Ted Cavooris; grandchildren Victoria, Dana and Nicholas Calderone, Taylor Marie Pullan, and Kenneth and John DeGruchy.
Interment under the direction of Massapequa Funeral Home, Inc., was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.
Ronnie M. Kennedy
Born In Rockaway
Mass of Christian Burial for Ronnie M. Kennedy was celebrated on Monday, November 1 at St. Luke Church in Westport, Connecticut.
She died in her home on Wednesday, October 28. She was 68 years old.
Mrs. Kennedy was born in Rockaway to the late George and Veronica Shannon Henry and resided there for 23 years before moving to Simsbury, Connecticut where she lived from 1954 to 1974. She then moved to Westport, Connecticut where she resided for the past 25 years.
Ronnie graduated from Stella Maris in 1949 where she was a starting player on the basketball team. She also played semi-pro ball for the Belle Harbor Triangles.
In Connecticut she was a member of the Assumption Church Adoration to the Sacred Heart Guild and a member of the Westport Woman’s Club where she received the 1999 award for most membership enrollment. Mrs. Kennedy was also an active volunteer on the club’s Health Clinic, Food Closet and the Membership Table.
She also volunteered at all the blood drives for the American Red Cross Mid-Fairfield County Chapter. She served as chairperson for the Town of Westport Senior Tea Party, was a member of the committee for Senior Easter Baskets, Committee Chairman for "Last Night" at the Levitt Pavillon for the Performing Arts. She was president of the Graduates Bowling League of Westport, and in 1998 a scholarship in her name was awarded to a graduating Staples High School senior for her dedication to volunteerism.
Mrs. Kennedy was a member and daily communicant at Saint Luke Church where she also served as chairperson for the bake sale, volunteered on the Christmas fair, family picnics and clothing drive for flood victims.
Ronnie is the widow of the late Daniel M. Kennedy, sr. She is survived by sons Kevin F. Kennedy of Herndon, Virginia and Robert D. Kennedy of Trumbull, Connecticut; daughter Kathy Burke of Tariffville, Connecticut; brother George Henry of Lindenhurst; sister Clare Knott of Rockaway Beach; grandchildren Jessi and Meghan Burke, and Shaun, Leah, Andrew and Emma Kennedy.
She was predeceased by her son the late Daniel M. Kennedy, jr.
Interment under the direction of Harding Funeral Home, Inc., of Westport, was held at Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms, Connecticut.
John P. Malloy
Mass of Christian Burial for John P. Malloy was celebrated on Thursday, November 4 at St. Rose of Lima Church.
He died at his home in Rockaway Park on October 31, 1999.
John was a life-long Rockaway resident and a Navy veteran. He worked as a driver for Lisanti Food.
Widower of the beloved Mary, John is survived by his sons Patrick and Thomas; brother Stephen; sister Rosemary Maguire; and grandchildren Thomas and Shane.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc., was held at Calverton Cemetery.
Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine McCabe was celebrated on Thursday, November 4 at St. Camillus Church.
Catherine was a loving homemaker and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She lived in Rockaway for 23 years, coming from Manhattan.
Widow of the late Patrick, Catherine is survived daughters Mary Riggs and Patricia McCabe; sons Frank, Thomas, Patrick and Kevin; and grandchildren Katie, Julia, Jamie, Jimmy and Thomas.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc., was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.
Violet Stephanie Michael
Volunteer At PS 42
Violet Stephanie Michael (nee Bremner) died October 21, 1999.
She was born in Guyana, South America in 1929 to Carmen and Percival Bremner. At the age of 25, she was joined in holy matrimony to her beloved husband Dudley Michael.
Violet was a dedicated homemaker who also worked in the restaurant industry for nearly 10 years. She used her life as a living example of the importance of hard work, dedication and perseverance, passing these values on to her 16 children.
She was a volunteer of St. John’s Ambulance Brigade and dedicated her time to meeting the needs of the sick and shut-in.
Her ambition and drive brought her to the United States in 1985. Her love for children and her desire to teach and nurture them led her to PS 42 where she volunteered as a teacher’s assistant.
She is survived by her children Vilma, Egbert, Leonard, Arthur, Philip, Frank, Gloria, Lynette, Myrtle, David, Martin, Edith, June, Gregory, Mark and Daniel; grandchildren Philip jr., Leonard jr., Juliet, Brent, Sharon, Ceon, Carmen, Mona, Tina, Racquel, in addition to 69 other grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
