St. John's Update
St. John's Episcopal Hospital is working to heal itself with the expertise of Dr. Fred Hyde, an outside consultant, staff of Local 1199 Health Care Union, delegates and EHS administration at South Shore.
Dr. Hyde and the above committee have developed a crisis team now meeting the second time Friday, November 5. They will be looking at many ways to better serve the community with the current and future emergency health care needs in mind.
Collectively they are trying to reduce costs that are not productive and increase revenue with needed services to the community.
The 1199 Union staff has had their benefits restored and a repayment plan of the monies owed by EHS to the 1199 Benefit Fund is in place.
Layoffs that were slated and then put on hold in August 1999 were necessary to implement Monday, November 1, as part of savings strategy. The 1199 Placement Fund is committed to place the laid-off employees of 1199 in other 1199 institutions if and where feasible in accordance with their job classifications.
Employees are grateful of the support of Assemlywomans Pheffer and Cummings, Lew Simon, The Wave/John McLoughlin, Malcolm Smith, Senator Waldon, and Congressmans Weiner and Meeks.
Look for future updates.
