Y2K B.C.A.C. Baseball/Softball

Charter Granted By Williamsport

By Marty Feeney

Broad Channel Athletic Club is proud to announce that it has recently been approved and granted a charter to participate in Little League play in the Y2K baseball season. The name of the new league that is currently being formed will be called the Broad Channel Athletic Club Jamaica Bay Little League. The B.C.A.C. has played baseball and softball in the CYO program for many years and is grateful to them for giving our children the opportunity to participate in their program.

The B.C.A.C. has been contemplating this for a few years and it was a tough decision to make but we feel it is the best choice. We have been the only parish in the area the past few seasons to compete in the CYO program and each season more and more parishes are dropping out making it very difficult to compete in their league. Our goal is to have our own in house league for boys baseball and girls softball. We at the B.C.A.C. know that this will be a tough job to do but are confident that we will be successful. The idea of having our own league has many positive points. All of our games during the in house program will be played in Broad Channel and that will be greatly appreciated to the players and their families. At the end of the regular season the league will be able to participate in little league tournament play competing against the little league teams in district 27. Rockaway Little League and Ozone Howard little Leagues are great examples of little league play. Both organizations have been providing baseball and softball for many years and we will be looking forward to their guidance in our attempt to be successful.

Marty Andressen, president of the Rockaway Little League, has been contacted and being the great guy that he is has given us his blessing and will provide the B.C.A.C with any help he can. This is our first season will be a learning experience and we need all the help we can get. The B.C.A.C. would like to provide baseball and girls softball in every age category. We will have three fields available to us this season, the two fields at the day camp and the field located at memorial field, which has lights. The league has set pre-registration dates. We will hold pre- registration at memorial field located at first road and Cross Bay boulevard every Wednesday evening in November, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Their will be no fee required to register at pre registration and it is very important that

any child that would like to play registers on one of these dates. We will have minimum space available for this season and registration will be taken on a first come basis. We are asking for your help as a parent to register your child in November--this will make things a whole lot easier for the men and women who are putting this league together. Anyone that is interested in being a part of the league will be gratefully appreciated. For any information contact any B.C.A.C. member or visit us on line at our web site www.broadchannelac.org.
