Red Mites ‘Rock The Rink’

Red Wing Mites pose for a picture before a game at the Rockaway hockey rink.

Attention hockey mavens--that time of year has rolled around again. Mite-division Rockey hockey is back and better than ever! On Sunday morning, October 17, Red and Teal faced-off in what proved to be an exciting season opener. Red went on to defeat Teal by a score of 14- 9 in three action-packed periods. Thomas 'The Wall" Kirby and Andrew "The Man in the Net" Cahalan shared
goal-tending duties and between them defended Big Red against 23 Teal shots.

Jimmy McCabe competed energetically. Ryan Laurain played intelligently both offensively and defensively. Anthony Allocco skated skillfully. John Walsh unveiled the 'meanest' slapshot on the peninsula.

The Red Wing first-line ruled. Eddie Warren and Thomas Ryan scored three goals apiece. Sean Kirby and Neil Howard put the puck in the net four times each. All four veterans achieved hat tricks. Congratulations guys!

The Red Wings debuted four, new little skaters. Elizabeth Cholakis and
Nicholas McElhatton demonstrated that size is not related to ability. All
four roller-rookies worked hard keeping the puck in Teal territory. To all Red Wing newcomers--welcome aboard!

Red Wing coaches Sean Kirby sr. and Don Howard congratulated all the players on the job well done. The Wings' next face-off is set for Sunday, October 24 at 9 a.m. in the Rockaway rink.
