Joseph Grodski, of Rockaway was fishing off the bay wall at Beach 112 street early last Friday evening with a friend when he fell approximately 12 feet , smashing the left side of his head, and landed in two feet of water.
The friend and other civilian witnesses contacted police. Officers responding to the scene included Transit Police Sergeant Cooke, who immediately entered the bay waters in order to help in keeping Grodski’s head above water.
100 Precinct Operations Lt. Inzirello responded and put out a call for Emergency Service Units, New York City Fire Department Medical Services and police harbor units to respond.
Upon the arrival of E.S.U. additional officers entered the water and secured Godski onto a back board and lifted him back over the bay wall.
Also present at the rescue scene were 100 Precinct patrol Superisor Sgt. Maher, Transit Police Officer Broschart and E.S. U. Police Officer Norman.
Grodski, 50, was transported to Peninsula General Hospital Center.
