St. Thomas More Soccer:

Victorious Weekend For Team

St. Thomas More Rookie Boys Soccer Team improved its record to 3-1 with victories over St. Francis de Sales and Queen of Peace last weekend. In the victory over SFDS the offense came alive early, scoring in the first minute of the game and did not let up as STM came away with 7-2 win. The STM scoring was led by Keith Klein, two goals, and one goal each by Gerry Dwyer (penalty shot), Johnny McCarthy, James Owens, Michael Duemig and Alan MacSaveny. Brendan Smith played well at his midfield position setting up the STM offense and along with Ryan Lindgren, AJ Arasin, Bairon Garzon and Luke Howard thwarted most of the SFDS scoring opportunities.

The 2-0 victory over Queen of Peace was accomplished although STM was without several players, including goalie James Owens and Brendan Smith. The offense was led by Keith Klein and Alan MacSaveny, while the defense was anchored by Gregory Augarten, Andy Spyliopulos and Gerry Dwyer. Johnny McCarthy played well at his midfield position controlling the ball. Michael Duemig and Ryan Lindgren shared the goal keeper duties and registered the shutout. Thomas Mahoney also played well at his midfield position and defended excellently against the Queen of Peace forwards. Keith Klein scored midway through the first half to give STM a 1-0 lead. Early in the second half Ryan Sheehan converted a loose ball into a goal which provided STM with its final margin of victory. Without substitutes the team played very well.
